On October 21, the 5th graders had the opportunity to visit and create art at Manayunk Pottery, the studio of award winning potter Janice Strawder. Under the guidance of Ms. Strawder, volunteer Bob Brano, and art teacher Deena Ball, students rolled out slabs of clay and added unique textures to them.

Some stamped their clay with Indian fabric design blocks, while others rolled lace into the clay or even added their shoe imprint. The finished clay containers can be used as utensil holders and flower vases among other things. St. James School is looking forward to seeing students’ finished pieces, which will be glazed and returned in the coming days. Special thanks to Mr. Brano for sponsoring this exciting opportunity!
