On April 26, students performed their first school play, a musical version of Pinocchio. This is thanks to a partnership with the Missoula Children’s Theatre (a group our own Ms. Annie Lerew once worked for) and the Diocese Office of Family and Young Adult Ministries.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) is the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, visiting nearly 1,200 communities a year from Montana to Japan. An MCT tour team arrived at St. James School one week before the performance date with set, lights, costumes, props and makeup — everything it takes to put on a play. All they needed was the cast.

Auditions were held at the school on Monday with over 50 children cast, including St. James School students and children from the Allegheny West neighborhood and from neighboring Episcopal churches. Students worked with MCT actors daily at rehearsals to prepare for the performance at St. Luke’s Church in Germantown. After a rigorous week of rehearsing and memorizing lines, the cast wowed a packed audience of family, friends and community members at the final performance.

Congratulations to the entire cast on a wonderful performance!
