Workforce Opportunities
Building Skills, Experience, and Pathways to Meaningful Work
Graduates of all ages have access to individualized guidance and hands-on support as they explore, prepare for, and pursue meaningful work opportunities. Whether seeking long-term employment, seasonal or short-term work, internships, trade and workforce training programs, or volunteer experiences, graduates are supported in identifying opportunities that align with their goals and interests. Our aim is to help graduates build confidence, develop practical and professional skills, and take purposeful steps toward economic mobility and long-term career success.
Explore and Apply for Jobs
We help graduates find career paths that match their interests and talents by providing real-world exposure to workforce options in healthcare, trades, technology, and more. We ensure each graduate is confident and prepared for every job opportunity by providing help with resume writing and job applications, interview preparation and clothing, obtaining vital documents, transportation, and more.
First Bosses Program
Designed to give graduates their first real-world work experience, First Bosses offers temporary entry-level jobs at local partner businesses that combine a supportive environment with professional expectations. Partners include local and predominantly Black-owned businesses such as Thundermug, Vault & Vine, and Beautifit.
Building Trades Training
Graduates can participate in a 12-week paid apprenticeship at St. James to gain hands-on exposure to building trades: carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. Participants also learn skills that are transferable to any workplace, including problem-solving and collaboration with others.
The training grew out of the popularity of Alumni Woodshop, in which graduates have been gaining woodworking skills by creating useful and decorative household items to sell for fundraising.
As our graduate population grows, our Building Trades Training program is also growing and evolving to align with their career interests and enhance their opportunities for employment.
