Since 2012, Di Bruno Bros. has been an invaluable partner to St. James School. The specialty food retailer — founded in 1939 by Danny and Joe Di Bruno — has provided not only financial support, but also (and most deliciously) pro bono catering. Di Bruno Bros. has also introduced students to the idea of pursuing a culinary career one day.
“My cousins and I feel very fortunate to have helped navigate Di Brunos at this point of its 75th year of history,” says Bill Mignucci, Jr., President of Di Bruno Bros. “We are proud to be part of the fabric of Philadelphia and live to the legacy of Joe and Danny Di Bruno, which was about celebrating great food with great people and giving back to the community.”
St. James School and Di Bruno Bros. have teamed up to confront the health challenges facing families in underresourced urban neighborhoods. For many families, the only affordable food options are salty, fatty, and processed foods with little nutritional value.
“To be part of helping to build a neighborhood kitchen here at St. James School kind of goes hand in hand with what Danny & Joe were doing,” says Di Bruno Bros. Vice President of Culinary Pioneering Emilio Mignucci. “We can reach out to the young people of the world and teach them to eat right.”
The new Neighborhood Kitchen creates the opportunity to put healthy and fresh food on the table both at home and at school for our students and their families. It will give the school a space to teach students about the importance of eating fruits and vegetables and other healthy choices.
“Healthy eating is a number one priority for children these days,” says Vice President of Administration Bill Mignucci. “Having a kitchen will supply the means to bring out the product.
The new Di Bruno Bros. Neighborhood Kitchen @ St. James School will empower students and their families to provide a healthy future for themselves and generations to follow. For more information about this initiative or to make a donation, please visit https://stjamesphila.org/kitchen
