The 6th grade class of St. James School ventured on their first Urban Blazers field trip of the year. Under the leadership of Executive Director Eric Dolloway–with the help of volunteers from Temple University–the students went for an afternoon hike at Blue Bell Park.

The 6th graders enjoyed the gorgeous autumn weather and fresh air while learning safe trekking skills such as spotting poison ivy, walking with a buddy and identifying landmarks along the route. They also practiced the Urban Blazers’ principle of respecting everyone and everything around them, including bikers, other hikers, and all of the natural life in the park.

The highlight for most students was skipping stones in Wissahickon Creek. The students returned to school with big smiles and wet socks.
