St. James School welcomed high school students from Friends Central School for a productive three day service learning trip. Under the guidance of U.S. History teacher Joel Dankoff, Friends Central students have visited St. James for the past three years through their school’s comprehensive Service Learning Program. The visit is a unique opportunity for students from each school to learn from one another.

St. James students loved having a group of older role models to connect with during the week. The older students joined St. James for lunch and recess time fun, and quickly stepped into tutoring and mentoring roles, working with students one-on-one in reading, math and science. The student volunteers also constructed and decorated library boxes for St. James students to use at home and raked leaves around campus.

St. James is looking forward to the return of Friends Central this spring when students will volunteert another three days of service.
