Luke Miani and Noah Rubin, now graduates of Lower Merion High School, partnered on their senior project to create a 17-minute documentary about St. James School amid the educational crisis in the city of Philadelphia. During the final weeks of class at Lower Merion, all seniors are off-campus undertaking an independent project which they must pass in order to graduate. Luke and Noah were first introduced to St. James School through Luke’s mother, Kathryn Miani, a beloved supporter and long-time volunteer.
Luke and Noah also became volunteers at St. James — for four years, the high schoolers came to the school every week to teach computer skills, camera work, video production and tutor students in math.
Luke’s college essay featured St. James School, and it was “impressive enough to get him some fabulous acceptances,” says Kathryn. “His time there really transformed him and for that we’re so grateful.”
