The Episcopal School in North Philadelphia

The week of April 30th marked St. James School’s second annual Wanamaker Week, a week-long celebration of our Wanamaker Scholarship Society donors – those who contribute from $2,500 to over $30,000 annually and are united by their passion for educational equity. The society’s namesake is John Wanamaker, prominent Philadelphia businessman and philanthropist, whose final resting place is the Wanamaker Memorial Bell Tower located in the cemetery of the Church of St. James the Less (1846) on the grounds of St. James School.

Society members joined the St. James community on Tuesday, May 1st for St. James the Less Feast Day and mass, led by the Rt. Rev. Daniel G. P. Gutiérrez, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania. On Wednesday, May 2nd, an intimate dinner was held at the gates of the Wanamaker Bell Tower. Guests enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the Memorial tower and a lively presentation by Richard Seifert, a leading expert on the Wanamaker Family.
