Students worked with Bill Steig to create patchwork quilt tops as the culmination of a Colonial Arts unit.
The students started the unit on colonial arts by making their own fractur inspired birth announcements. They also visited Mount Pleasant in Fairmount park and enjoyed the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s colonial experience.
After learning about the quilts that Mr. Steig creates, students designed their quilt with precut squares of fabric remnants. Bill Steig will sew the 50″ x 50″ patchwork tops. Students will tie the quilts and volunteers from Trinity Church (Ambler, PA) will finish the edges. The lap quilts will be distributed to the elderly in the community.
I love it that the quilts will be given to the elderly in the St. James neighborhood! Well done!
