The Episcopal School in North Philadelphia

Linda and Derrick Pitts have a strong commitment to changing the narrative of the underrepresentation of Blacks and Hispanics in science, technology, engineering and math. They recognize that limited access to quality education, discrimination in recruitment and promotions and a lack of encouragement to pursue these jobs from an early age all contribute to the problem. The Derrick H. & Linda C. Pitts St. James Future Leaders in STEM Fund will provide financial resources for equipment and supplies in support of authentic STEM learning experiences. Their goal is to ensure that the students of St. James School receive a first-rate experience of science literacy, setting the stage for them to become the next generation’s science, technology, engineering, and mathematics professionals.

The St. James School STEM program helps to accomplish this goal by developing 21st century critical thinking skills. Problem-based learning initiatives help our students receive real world experience in astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, and physics. From preparing for the next asteroid collisions, to solving the climate crisis, St. James School students are prepared to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.

St. James School is an IRS-authorized 501(c)3 organization, which means your donation is tax-deductible.
